Native Texan Jim Gough has become a familiar reader for solid Western tales like this one. He expertly narrates this true story of former plantation owner Allan Johnson and his onetime slave, Britt Johnson, who are fighting to tame the West and rescue their families from the Comanches and Kiowas. Gough's female voices are always a bit weak, but he handles the colorful cowboys and Indians with perfection. Minor background sound effects build the atmosphere, and guitar strumming is used for transitions. As Britt tries to rescue the women and children, he has to make a choice no man should have to make.
