THE COLD VANISH Seeking the Missing in North America's Wildlands

by | Read by Stephen Graybill

Contemporary Culture • 11.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2020

Jacob Gray's bicycle is found in Olympic National Park in April 2018, but there is no sign of Jacob. His father, Randy, abandons his life to search for him even as the odds of finding him alive diminish. Narrator Stephen Graybill is steady and compelling as he guides the listener through the art and science of looking for missing persons, including Jacob, on America's public lands. His tone is even a bit haunting, which is appropriate. It is a bit bewildering to think that numbers are collected for grizzly bears and wolves, yet no database exists for persons missing in national parks. Billman plumbs the practical aspects of training bloodhounds and conducting searches as well as taking a few turns into mystical elements--Bigfoot believers, psychics, and cults. Graybill keeps pace with it all. A.B. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2020]
