UNDER DRAKE'S FLAG A Tale of the Spanish Main

by | Read by Jim Hodges

Historical Fiction • 12 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2002

Fifteen-year-old Ned dreams of going to sea with the gallant Sir Francis Drake. Unfortunately, Drake's boats are full, but an opening occurs when one of the crew becomes ill. Ned embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, which takes him all over the world. Hodges's voice suits the part of a boy. His narration is rapid and high-pitched, mimicking excited speech and making shipwrecks and Ned's capture by natives animated and engaging. Hodges handles the antiquated speech well, although modern listeners may find it awkward. Along the way, youngsters will learn about Europe's Age of Exploration and the Spanish Inquisition. A.G.H.
