UNDERSTANDING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF CLASSCAL MUSIC

by | Read by Richard Freedman

Contemporary Culture • 14 hrs. • Audio Program • © 2003

College-level courses are a growing audio genre, and no subject is better suited to this format than music. In this program Professor Freedman includes many musical selections to illustrate the concepts he discusses. His lectures are well organized, and he is articulate and encouraging. The problem with this course is that it's difficult to know its intended audience. Certainly it's too advanced for those with no knowledge of music, but it often moves too quickly to really deepen the understanding of intermediate listeners. It's probably best suited, then, to those who have studied music in the past and would like to review the ideas that may have faded from memory. D.B.
