DIARY OF AN ORDINARY WOMAN

The breadth of change in the lives of women in the twentieth century and in the opportunities available to them is vast. What more vivid method for exploring those changes could there be than a "diary" spanning the long life of a middle-class woman who lived between 1901 and the end of the century? Narrator Susan Jameson brings out the moods and emotions of Millicent as she tells the story of local and international events that affect her. Interspersed are summaries of events during periods when little of note occurs. Jameson narrates these as asides to listeners, as if sparing us tedious or repetitive entries while focusing on passages of more interest. J.E.M.
