FLEE FLY FLOWN

Kyra Harper's outstanding performance is a vacation for the ears in Janet Hepburn's original, funny, bittersweet story of two elderly women who escape from Tranquil Meadows Nursing Home. When Audrey and Lillian, both Alzheimer's patients, grow sick of being treated like "clueless old ladies," they hatch a plan to break out. They "borrow" a car, hire Rayne to drive them, and they're off on a crazed journey across Canada. Harper gives Lillian a warm, calm voice, while Audrey's is slightly hysterical. Rayne sounds loose and easy. Harper makes the women's interior monologues poignant without becoming mawkish as they have moments of clarity, moments of remembrance, and moments when they forget where they are and who they're with.
