JUSTICE FOR NONE

by | Read by John Peakes

Mystery & Suspense • 11 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2004

Boyd Carter, a WWI veteran and trolley car driver, is accused of killing his estranged wife and her boyfriend. Intertwined with this story are episodes of mischief, scenes of life in a veterans home in Vermilion, Illinois, and scenes of life on the run. Boyd is jailed, where he befriends an African-American, also accused of committing a crime. As the two pursue justice, John Peakes reads with stiff, perfunctory pronunciation of each and every syllable. Peakes makes his way slowly through elaborately described scenery, emotions, and internal ramblings. Not only is Peakes's narration emotionally disconnected from the text, his voice fades in and out when he attempts to differentiate the dialogue between characters. M.B.K.
