Ablow, like his protagonist, Dr. Clevenger, is a forensic psychiatrist. This accounts for a detailed, complex plot involving the apparent suicide of a brilliant inventor about to undergo surgery that will leave his memory blank. His beautiful mistress dies a few days later. The suspects include the scientist's wife and daughter, his business partner, who is hoping to cash in on his invention, and the mistress's husband. Aside from a suspect Boston accent for Clevenger, Kevin O'Rourke's narration is earnest and easy to listen to. What he can't do is make these characters sympathetic or likable. This is the latest of a series that probably has many followers. J.B.G. (c) AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 04/ JAN 05]
