PEOPLES AND CULTURES OF THE WORLD

by | Read by Edward Fischer

Contemporary Culture • 12 hrs. • Audio Program • © 2004

This course would serve as an excellent introduction to cultural anthropology for listeners wanting to better understand their complex world. Professor Edward Fischer, assistant professor at Vanderbilt University and winner of two teaching awards, makes the concepts easy to understand and cites instructive examples from his own research on the Mayas of Guatemala. His discourse may have been scripted, but his conversational tone and spon-taneity keep the interest level high. Energetic topics like cannibalism, gender, and incest contain lots of fuel for thought, and one needn't be an expert on anything to understand them. Although outlines and course materials come with the package, the audio needs little reinforcement. J.A.H. (c) AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 05]
