LIKE WIND AGAINST ROCK

Narrators Jackie Chung and Keong Sim create an inviting listening experience of a relatable story centered on family secrets and the rippling effects of choices. Alice Chang has just moved back in with her recently widowed mother. Chung, who voices Alice, her mom, and various supporting characters, rises to the challenge of conveying different generations and levels of English fluency convincingly. The characters' interactions, ranging from comical to heartwarming to contentious, are brought to life with genuine emotion that draws the listener in. Sim gives a nuanced reading of Mr. Park, Alice's employer; his son; and the entries in a recovered diary. His deep, ponderous voice and thoughtful tone capture the introspective mood and the characters' personal problems.
