ATKINS DIABETES REVOLUTION

by | Read by Sara Krieger

Personal Growth • 4.5 hrs. • Abridged • © 2004

Based on an unfinished book by Dr. Atkins, this is a well-organized but dry compilation of the Atkins approach to blood chemistry balance. The authors show how Type 2 diabetes is controllable by changing the metabolic imbalances that lead to the disorder. Along with genetics, the risk factors for diabetes are excess weight, a sedentary lifestyle, age, and a high-carbohydrate diet that includes the wrong type of fats. The program is about blood sugar and insulin getting out of sync, which can be caused by certain types of body fat, as well as stress and alcohol abuse. The authors make a convincing case that these preventive measures can help a significant number of at-risk patients. T.W. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 05]
