THE PROPHECY OF THE STONES

Middle-schoolers enamored with elaborate fantasy novels will relish this tale. Three 14-year-old girls are stunned to find themselves thrown together in another world. Eventually, they discover their power, which is related to stones matching their names: Jade, Opal, and Amber. Journeying through the magical kingdom of Fairytale, the girls realize they play critical roles in fulfilling an ancient prophecy. Young readers might enjoy knowing this novel was written by a young author of 15. The somewhat stiff dialogue is rescued by a superb reading by Jennifer Ikeda, whose young voice adds considerably to the story. Ikeda provides depth and character not apparent in the written text.
