After Jasmin wins a place at the Dorothy Wordsearch School for Gifted Young Writers, she wonders is she really lucky, or very unlucky? As she enters the mysterious mansion that houses the school and meets the super strong Miss Birdshot and the monstrous Mr. Collins, her apprehension increases. The odd student body reinforces her doubts. Narrator Kate Sachs perfectly renders the phony friendly voice of Dorothy W., the harsh rasps of Miss Birdshot, and the clever Jasmin. Blake peppers his story with great plays on words, which Sachs enhances for young listeners. This eerie tale, filled with false clues, doesn't unravel until the last minute.
