Oh, this is fun. Talented Clive Mantle takes us almost over the top in his enthusiastic rendition of this funny, silly, yet heartwarming story about modern vampires. When vegetarian vampire Count Meusli is expelled from Eyetooth, the last vampire refuge, he meets a friendly English family who is filming a homemade comedy about--guess what?--vampires. All is well until evil Count Fibula, intent on returning to the bloodsucking days, kidnaps Meusli's friends. Meusli must rescue them. Frank Rodgers's writing is clever, almost camp; Mantle's narration is just as clever. Never have vampires sounded as bad as Count Fibula or as insouciant as Count Meusli, and rarely have humans sounded as cheerfully normal as the kidnapped English family. In addition, Mantle offers a thoughtfully considered class accent for the family. A.C.S. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 05]
