THE LISTENING HOUSE

by | Read by Robin Miles

Mystery & Suspense • 11 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1938

Audiobook listeners join Gwynne Dacres, who loses her job during the Depression. She moves into a boarding house run by bad-tempered Mrs Garr, who is convinced her tenants are going through her things. When a dead body appears outside of the boarding house, it appears there's more to Mrs.Garr's suspicions than paranoia. Robin Miles narrates this mystery with style, helping to create a believably strong and independent lead character in Gwynne and bringing to life the rich cast of eccentric characters she meets. The narration particularly shines during the banter between Gwynne and others. Overall, Miles's timing is perfectly matched to this fast-paced mystery. Written in 1938, it's still a fun listen today.
