[Editor’s Note: THE LUKE REPORTS III is now available as part of THE LIFE OF JESUS.]--In this original full-cast drama, Luke researches the story of Jesus in the tumultuous Middle East, circa 65 A.D. The production is highly professional, with well-done sound effects. Even the background murmuring sounds authentic. Lush music bridges many track changes so that listeners needn’t stop in mid-scene. Richard O’Callaghan portrays a waspish but likable Luke. But the writing, while never bad, delivers no surprises or insights. The conventional piety can cloy, and the drama in Paul’s adventures seems forced and leads nowhere. The strong British accents may distract Americans, or even Brits, as they differ widely in characters from the same region or even family, a disconcerting flaw in a basically solid program.
