EDWARD R. MURROW AND THE BIRTH OF BROADCAST JOURNALISM

by | Read by Bob Edwards

Biography & Memoir • 4.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2004

When longtime public radio host Bob Edwards reads his own chronicle of Edward R. Murrow's broadcasting career, he sounds as if he's on the radio. This is not simply the effect of Edwards's renowned velvety baritone. The effect is amplified by the measured pacing, the upbeat tone of voice used to begin paragraphs, and the pauses for effect--all Bob Edwards's radio host signatures. As a result, Edwards's audiobook sounds just like a radio program, which is fine. In fact, the audiobook has also been enhanced with a recording of one of Murrow's famous broadcasts from London during the Blitz. The only bothersome note is the noticeable change in Edwards's voice from one recording session to another. Otherwise, a fine listen. A.C.S. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 05]
