A SEASON OF SINISTER DREAMS

In a silky voice, Christie Moreau narrates this twisting fantasy, exploring the gray areas of the ends justifying the means. Annalise, niece of the king, and Evra, a village girl, both burn with the same determination to reshape their kingdom for the better. Yet they approach this goal in starkly different ways. Despite clear distinctions in their positions and personalities, Moreau draws little vocal variation between the two girls. Listeners may sometimes wish for more distinction to help chart each character's unique personality. Still, Moreau's voice has gravity and intensity that help convey their passion. While her pacing is a bit slow, it accentuates the dramatic tension present as these young women grapple with their sense of duty, their powerful magical abilities, and their desire to improve the kingdom, even as more secrets are unraveled.
