More a monograph than a work of popular nonfiction, POE'S HEART is a technical and wordy explanation of the mechanics and treatment of anxiety and neuroses. Focusing primarily on clinical and laboratory examples, Dr. Restak does a thorough job of meandering the chemical and psychological pathways of the mind without ever really engaging the listener. (Perhaps he has a subconscious need to avoid intimacy.) In any case, narrator Scott Brick handles the complex text in a workmanlike fashion, doing what he can to make this audiobook accessible to the average listener.
