Narrator Aida Reluzco brings biracial millennial Mona Mireles to life in this funny and honest coming-of-age novel set in the aftermath of the 21st century's Great Recession. Reluzco gives Mona an appropriately snarky voice as she tells her own story. Her dream job ended before it began, and eight months later, she's stuck in her childhood bedroom, staring at walls covered with past achievements, bemoaning her fate and passing snarky judgment on everyone. Supporting characters help Mona find her way. Her mother sounds encouraging but impatient as she pushes Mona to move on. Best friend Ashley is patient and forgiving.
