Narrator Laci Morgan delivers the story of a young woman who is traveling with the infamous Donner Party. Ada Weeks is not yet 20, yet she's lost both her biological and adoptive parents. With no family left, she and the remainder of the Donner party are trapped in Truckee Lake, praying to survive the elements and each other through a brutal winter of 1847. Laci Morgan has the unenviable job of keeping glimmers of hope in the voice of a character who appears to experience nothing but suffering. The narrator is skillful with a variety of accents and captures the fear and struggle of a real-life disaster in this work of historical fiction.
