This interracial contemporary romance narrated by Jonathan Horvath follows Black tech business owner Vanessa and Algerian-American barbershop owner Khalil. In Detroit, the couple's budding relationship faces challenges stemming from Kahlil's hidden mental health struggles and Vanessa's previous bad experiences with interracial dating. Horvath's clear, pleasant voice and even pacing will appeal to listeners. But despite subtle changes to differentiate characters, they frequently sound similar, regardless of gender. Furthermore, the myriad accents and vocal stylizations of Metro Detroit are replaced with a generic American accent. While Horvath's foray into romance is moderately successful and shows potential for future narrations, a dual narrator production would have enlivened this audiobook.
