Acclaimed author Marita Golden takes on the controversial issue of colorism, or skin color comparison, and its impact on the African-American community past and present. The highly controversial issue alone makes this a difficult audiobook to enjoy. Michelle Hurst, to her credit, keeps an edge in her delivery that never allows the author's message to be taken lightly. Most of the narration sounds like a reading, rather than a performance of the material.
