In this overlong exploration of the mother-daughter relationship, Christiane Northrup offers both conventionally accepted ideas and alternative holistic suggestions. The book's strengths lie in its many case studies and anecdotal examples. Its major weakness lies in the fact that it offers only occasional scientific support. Additionally, some of Northrup's allegations are questionable while others merely reinforce established approaches. Narrator Staci Snell seamlessly blends Northrop's absorbing anecdotes and personal prescriptions for good health. Her intelligent reading does justice to Northrup's well-intended guidebook for mothers and daughters, but even Snell's lively performance isn't able to disguise the fact that the work is less scientific tome than pop health dressed up as a serious book.
