Ivy Ames has lost her important job and her unfaithful husband on the same day and has to find a way to support two young daughters who are accustomed to privilege. By a fluke, she becomes an advisor to the rich and sometimes infamous who are determined to get their preschoolers into the city’s finest kindergartens. Julia Gibson’s empathy for the odd characters is lacking. She does, however, make this a bright work, and there is great fun in hoping that the devil will get his due. Ivy gets paid $20,000 per family, so we're not quite sure who the devil is. J.P. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 05]
