The love story of Edward Daugherty, a turn-of-the-century Albany playwright who reaches beyond his immigrant roots, and his wife Katrina, aristocratic, independent, and beautiful, raises one of literature's eternal questions: Can the love of two good people transcend class and corruption? This unabridged recording has the feel of an abridgment; long periods of time are skipped, and we're left to wonder about the feelings and motives of crucial characters. Michael Prichard's matter-of-fact narration does nothing to help unravel the convoluted time scheme or clarify the confusing switches in narrative voice and point of view.
