NO COUNTRY FOR EIGHT-SPOT BUTTERFLIES A Lyric Essay

by | Read by Michael Ignacio

Biography & Memoir • 2.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2022

Part memoir from his Guam childhood and part manifesto, this audio collection of essays by climate activist Julian Aguon looks at resistance, resilience, and collective power in the age of climate disaster. It's also a call for justice--for everyone but, in particular, for Indigenous peoples. Michael Ignacio's narration exactly fits the text. He adds appropriate outrage, sadness, and reverence. He varies his pace nicely. His background as a Pacific Island storyteller and voice actor serves listeners well. The work's short chapters cover an array of topics, including childhood memories, a commencement address, and political commentary. Most are prose, but there is some poetry. In all, this requires significant flexibility on the part of the narrator, which Ignacio delivers. R.C.G. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2023]
