This collection includes abridgments of SKINWALKERS, A THIEF OF TIME, and COYOTE WAITS--bestselling novels that feature interesting tensions between Native American detectives Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. The works lend themselves beautifully to the audio format. It's a pleasure to listen to Hillerman read; his down-home gravelly voice evokes the Western landscape of which he writes, though the narration may be an adjustment for some as Hillerman makes no particular attempt to differentiate his characters' voices. This collection serves as a good introduction to new listeners and allows Hillerman fans to trace the development of the two detectives' relationship over time. An excerpt from Hillerman's SELDOM DISAPPOINTED (with his agent's now infamous remark to "leave out the Indian stuff") completes this attractive production.
