Part I of this book provides a meticulous and loving defense of Lewis's great fantasy, explaining the biblical roots for many of its images. Stasi Eldridge matches the author's affection in this section, speaking of Lewis's faith with enthusiasm and reading selections from the novel with flair, as if for a group of listening fans. However, Part II moves more quickly and isn't as strong. Veith doesn't do justice to Lewis's political or literary views and seems not to understand some of them. Eldridge's delivery remains clear, but the emotional tone shifts accordingly, becoming less affectionate and more dismissive. G.T.B. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/ MAY 06]
