THE CROW-GIRL

by | Read by Felice Yeh

Children Ages 10+ • 3.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1993

Translated from the Danish, this story FEELS like it's from another culture. The story itself is often bleak and pulls no punches: the crow girl's grandmother dies, leaving her orphaned, and other adults in the story are mean or threatening in a variety of ways. The contemplative pace of the story is drawn out by the deliberate reading of Felice Yeh, who takes her time with the words and doesn't rush to fill the spaces between the sentences. Her delivery takes some adjusting to, but the effort is well worth it. As it unfolds, the story casts a spell that keeps listeners engaged and still thinking long after its satisfying end.
