Lina Patel's performance is deliberate but not labored as she develops voices for strong prehistoric female characters, as well as aggressive male warriors. Gear's book contains well-developed characters and authentic historical details. Patel easily maintains listener interest as she uses precise pacing and a variety of volumes to dramatize the underlying story of murder and madness, clan loyalties, and personal betrayals. Her considerable vocal talents are pleasing, and her comfortable reading style draws listeners back in time. The result is a winning audio experience.
