THE LAST MILE HOME

by | Read by Bruce Kerr

Young Adult Young Adult • 6 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1994

A tender romance of star-crossed lovers, this story, set in the 1950s, tugs at the heartstrings as the back country of Australia comes to life. Although the story is formulaic, the listener is quickly engaged and, once in the thick of the plot, enchanted by the relationship between the rich but emotionally remote country squire and the poor rural girl from a loving family. Bruce Kerr does a good job at narration, characterization, and the occasional rousing sing-along. His accent is authentic, and the voice of each character is melodious. A good twist at the end also makes this a worthwhile listen. D.L.M. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/NOV 05]
