Professional storyteller Judith Black deals with everyone's childhood, using her own as the model. Black transforms herself into narrator and characters with energy and sensitivity. We're privy to family get-togethers that turn into snipe sessions, airing old resentments, sibling rivalries, the issues of aging parents, and much more. Black's performance art, usually done on stage in front of an audience, works just fine on audio. Her material pierces to the core yet is able to make fun of itself. While there is sentiment here, Black never becomes sentimental. Her performance of a phone conversation with both parents and her son about Passover plans is a tour de force. Impressive talents in both writing and storytelling make this a worthwhile listen. S.J.H. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 06]
