MIRROR OF FIRE AND DREAMING

This sequel to Divakaruni's first novel, THE CONCH BEARER, delights with the further adventures of the young hero, Anand, and his spunky friend, Nisha. Set in India, Divakaruni's books, a planned trilogy, blend fine character development with beautifully imagined magical elements. Narrator James Langton does a first-rate job dramatizing the story and vocalizing a variety of Indian accents belonging to cooks, guards, and imperious royal rulers. His Master Healer Abhayatta is particularly attractive, as is the voice he creates for the powerful conch itself. Best of all is Langton's delightful Anand, who quickly becomes someone we care about and admire, a response that makes his perilous journey all the more thrilling.
