This is a recording of a live reading of short, very personal works written by members of the Los Angeles AIDS Project Writers’ Workshop. The performers include noted TV actors, such as David Hyde Pierce (“Frasier”) and Robert Foxworth (“Falcon Crest”), as well as the writers themselves, the majority of whom are homosexual men. Each piece concerns an aspect of the authors’ shared plight as persons with AIDS (PWAs). Despite the uneven quality of the readings and writings and the grim subject matter, the overall effect doesn’t depress the listener. Just the opposite: The effect is tragic in the Aristotelian sense--worthy protagonists trapped by fate reveal the essential nobility of the human spirit.
