TREASURY OF DECEPTION

by | Read by Johnny Heller

Contemporary Culture • 8.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2005

This is the sort of book one keeps in the loo--an amusing compendium of brightly written accounts of historical mendacities, some inconsequential and some shaking civilization--an undemanding volume one can pick up and put down at any point without losing the thread. (Or, for that matter, caring about losing the thread.) Likewise, the audio version is fine for short commutes. Johnny Heller reads accurately while maintaining the right note of lightness. He's perfectly adequate, and the audio is satisfactorily diverting--though he seems to lack the panache and timing that would make the material dance off the page.
