CONTROLLED BURN

This anthology of gritty stories reveals the sordid dealings of the disenfranchised in both the Northeast and Northwest. Whether peddling "crystal meth" to truckers, bootlegging gasoline from a college, or trying to make a new life after prison, the characters live hard and fragile lives, a dichotomy implied by the title. The title could also define William Dufris's performance. Dufris masterfully embodies each character with a hard-edged truthfulness, rendering them all naked to the listener. His narration keeps pace with each story's demands and offers astute vocal characterizations. With each of the first words uttered, Dufris leaves no doubt as to the nature of every character.
