THE HOUSE OF DEATH

A mystery set against the violence of a rampaging army is odd. The ongoing slaughter seems to make the murders inconsequential, except that they change the course of Alexander's campaign. Terry Wale handles the mayhem with aplomb and steely discretion. The time is 334 BC, and the place is the Hellespont. Alexander is waiting for the gods' sign that his invasion of Persia will succeed. His trusted friend from school, Telamon the physician, arrives in camp and begins investigating the sealed tent murders of a vestal virgin, the map-maker, and many more.
