A GENTLEMAN OF LEISURE

by | Read by Tom Whitworth

Humor • 7.5 hrs. • Unabridged • ©

Jimmy Pitt is a well-meaning but rather aimless young man who can't resist a bet. This failing involves him with Capt. McEachern of the NYPD and McEachern's lovely daughter, Molly. Though typical of Wodehouse's comic writing, this is not among the prolific author's best. Narrator Tom Whitworth has a pleasant British accent which readily distinguishes among the characters; he does what he can with Brooklynese. Good pacing allows the listener to keep track of an often frantic plot. An indication of the book's copyright (1921) would have helped to place the story in context.
