Bernhardt's HATE CRIME is a suspenseful thriller that doesn't do justice to its promise. Paul Boehmer's delivery is flat at best, and listeners may struggle to differentiate characters. If not for the content, one might be tempted to stop after the first disc, but the story is worth the time. Ben Kincaid and Christina McCall, attorneys from Tulsa, travel to Chicago to defend Johnny Christensen, who beat and stabbed a gay man. But who actually committed the murder? Bernhardt's story is worthy of a much better performance, and, while Boehmer's performance could be viewed as no-frills, it lacks the delivery expected of a thriller.
