With a history of health problems in his family, McManus gives listeners the inside scoop on his "executive checkup" at the renowned Mayo Clinic. The work is equal parts memoir, health report, political diatribe, and portrait of a privileged, learned middle-aged man facing his golden years. Patrick Frederic does a decent job portraying McManus's sarcasm, disdain for the Bush Administration, and concern as a parent, even as he comes across as arrogant and egocentric. Frederic is expert at capturing McManus's biting humor and sharp criticisms in this thought-provoking piece but is a bit obnoxious when reading McManus's distracting use of profanity and quotes from rappers.
