LOVE AND DEVOTION

At 32, Harriet Swift has a place of her own, a successful career, and a great boyfriend. When her sister and her husband die in a car crash, Harriet moves in with her parents to help them look after her niece and nephew. Jilly Bond provides Harriet with a unique voice, aptly shifting her tone to reflect Harriet's mixed feelings about her life's new direction. Bond's subtle alterations of British accents give the story's many characters-from Harriet's crotchety father to her gay childhood friend-their own voices. Even the children at the heart of the narration come to life with childish yet pleasing voices as Bond's inflections reveal their innocence and rediscovery of joy.
