In this collection of reissued DeMille abridgments, each narrator captures the protagonists, making it appear as if multiple narrators tell each story instead of one. David Dukes's rendition of pirates, buried treasure, and murder at Plum Island is accomplished with a calm, even delivery in an authoritative tone. Jim Naughton's manipulation of the KGB's American and Russian accents as well as the accents of the prisoners held captive at the Charm School is ingenious. Brian Murray ends with the story of retired Commander Ben Tyson, who is charged with murder 17 years after the men under his command committed atrocities. A Nelson DeMille interview ends each story. A good introduction to DeMille's early novels, each is engrossing, complete, and easy to follow. G.D.W. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 06]
