DEVICES AND DESIRES

Commander Adam Dalgliesh of New Scotland Yard travels to Larksoken, home of a nuclear power plant, to settle his aunt's estate. There's a serial killer loose on the headlands, and Dalgliesh finds himself assisting the local constabulary. With a cast loaded with suspects, it's difficult at first to keep track of who's who. Later, as the listener becomes accustomed to voices and names are used more frequently, it's possible to enjoy James's many plot twists and surprises. The performances are uniformly excellent, as one would expect from a BBC dramatization. Robin Ellis plays Dalgliesh, and full cast credits follow on the final disc.
