ANYONE BUT HIM

by | Read by Emma Lowe

Fiction • 14.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2004

When the recently widowed Cora takes a cruise and returns with a young boyfriend, her adult daughters and son-in-law are appalled. While trying to sort out Cora's love life, they end up working out their own relationships. Emma Lowe's pleasing Irish accent sets the Dublin story squarely where it belongs. Her softening of a "t" at the end of a word, musical pacing, and lyrical vowels delight the listener. Lowe's characterizations, on the other hand, are less consistent. Cora's younger daughter speaks in an unpleasant nasal tone, and her American lover sometimes sounds Irish. Overall, however, the text and performance suit each other.
