FOUR BY L'AMOUR

These dramatizations of four L'Amour stories portray the world of the Wild West, complete with hoofbeats, the clink of drinks at a bar, and, of course, bullets twanging by, just grazing the main character who may be injured, but who never dies. As a collection, they are entertaining and varied, with a wealth of well-chosen voices bringing the characters to life. Though the writing may occasionally make you laugh ("she was all woman, that one, and she had it where it showed"), L'Amour's skill at creating a sense of the West and the people who inhabited it is showcased to great advantage, as is his ability to maintain listener in suspense.
