But circumstances may place his family and Katy beyond his reach, testing Dayne even further. Sandra Burr's reading of the sometimes powerfully emotional prose is smooth and measured, and her handling of Katy and the other female characters is expert. Her interpretations of the men, especially Dayne and John Baxter, his long-lost father, truly shine. And her take on Dayne's troublemaking agent provides a few welcome chuckles.
