HANGOVER SOUP

Faith Evers is intensely in love with her charming hunk of a husband--but not enough to tolerate his alcoholic self-centeredness. Reluctantly moving out of their home into the dorms at the University of Texas, Austin, where she is the tutor for the student athletes, Faith endures a tailspin of miserable events. Narrator Kate Skinner portrays Faith with cool detachment, almost as if she's watching the events happen to someone else. Skinner's style suits Redd's crisp writing--poignant yet somehow delightfully witty despite the seriousness of the topic. Some of Skinner's voices are over the top, but her relatively straight delivery of the main characters enables her sharp dialogue to shine.
