A LIGHT IN THE WINDOW

It is more than usually emblematic that Father Tim is diabetic, since the sweetness of this installment of his life in Mitford is particularly intense. You will always be a step ahead of the plot; you will never be disappointed the cracker barrel kindness, loyalty, and Christian charity of the citizens of Mitford, with the exception of rich, selfish widow Edith Mallory, who hopes to hook Father Tim. You may tire of Timothy's dithering over romantic commitment to the perfect Cynthia; you may flag slightly at the thought of 60-year-olds making a drama over " going steady." But John McDonough's warm, mature voice and his patience with all these foibles make the perfect instrument for another eventful, well-made, reassuring, and gently comic visit to Mitford.
