THE OLIVE READERS

Imagine control of the world being divided between corporations that control the production of goods and the people who produce them. Information is controlled, and books are banned. But the readers of a secret library have access to information that helps them put things in motion far beyond their imaginations. Narrator Laurence Bouvard brings out the gender, age, and class of each of the major characters. She is most convincing in the first-person voice of Jephzat, whom she portrays as a naïve girl who comes of age as she plays a pivotal role in the events she describes.
